Bach Ma National Park - 2 days, 1 night


 

Venture into one of the best National Parks in Vietnam. This park, in the highlands of Central Vietnam and about 1.5 hours from Hoi An, used to be an old French Hill Station and is located up above 1,400 meters. The climate is cool and great for some of the activities that can be done in the park; including camping, trekking, rappelling and wandering through the jungle to see some of the old villas that are hidden here.





Day 1 - Hoi An to Bach Ma


This two day trip starts from your hotel in Hoi An as we depart by vehicle to the park. The drive is about 1.5 to 2 hours along the coast and up through small farms and countryside, before ascending the steep, winding, single lane road up into the jungle.

We stop on the side of the road where a trail leads us in to our jungle campsite. Tents are set up for the night and a pic nic lunch is arranged. After lunch we depart by vehicle further up the mountain where we can trek in to a look out point at the very top of Bach Ma Mountain (45 minute walk). And another trek that leads us in to an area littered with old French villas that lay in ruins. It takes a little bit of imagination to try and picture what the area must have looked like back in the 1930’s.

After these 2 walks we head down to the park restaurant for dinner and then back to our campsite for a quiet evening around the campfire.




Day 2 - Bach Ma to Hue or Danang



The next day, after breakfast, we depart on a 1.5 hour walk out to Rhododendrun Falls (300 meters high), on a beautiful junlge path that passes by waterfalls and clear streams (swimming possible). At Rhododendrun Falls you have the option of doing 2 adrenalin filled rapells down the upper section of the falls. The exposure and views are fantastic. Alternatively you can walk down to the bottom of the falls and spend more time swimming in the river.

After a box lunch at the waterfall we walk out of the jungle for about 30 minutes and meet up with our vehicle. The vehicle takes you either to Hue (1.5 hours away) or Danang (1.5 – 2 hours) where we end our adventure.

What to Bring: Hat, sunscreen, clothes for swimming if interested, repellent, camera, long pants if you are bothered by close brush, warm clothes for night time, comfortable walking shoes such as sport shoes or hiking boots.
