Trek the first day from just outside of Dalat on the Razorback trail to Tuyen Lam Lake. The trail is moderate on the first day and walks along a jungle fringed ridgeline before descending to the campsite on the shore of the lake. The second day puts you deeper into the jungle as you trek further south. This moderate trek involves about 4 to 5 hours of hiking each day.
This two day trip starts to the South of Dalat City. We drive along picturesque scenic roads to the Razorback Trailhead, where we start our journey. The first section of trail takes you from 1,500 meters to 1,700 meters and offers fantastic views of Dalat and Langbian Mountain in the distance.
Once we reach the ridgeline, the trail rolls without too much elevation change and takes us through beautiful sections of broad leaf evergreen. When we reach the trail junction that leads us down to the lake, we stop for a rest and lunch.
We slowly descend down from the ridge after lunch, to the lake below. The path stays in the jungle until almost the end, where we emerge into a small clearing of pine forest that sits along the lake edge. This is where we camp for the night and hikers are free to swim, or just relax until dinner.
Start your walk through pine forest near the lake. Soon there is a dramatic change in scenery from pine to thick jungle. Walk the rolling hills among the vines, broad-leaf trees, and enjoy the cool jungle breeze. If you are lucky, you may see a wild orchid in bloom or a troop of wild gibbons. Upon exiting the thick jungle section, you will walk between Elephant Mountain and another area peak. Enjoy seeing the small minority farms that dot the valley floor. After lunch and a rest you continue walking through the valley until you come to a ridgeline, which you follow to the chicken village.

Trek into the newest National Park in Vietnam (Bidoup Nui Ba), and up to the summit of the tallest mountain in the region; Mount Bidoup (2,280 meters). This fantastic two day trek takes you north into a previously inaccessible area that has only recently opened up and into a rainforest thick with orchids, troops of gibbon monkeys and other natural wonders.
We start with a 45 minute vehicle transfer from Dalat, up towards the Northeast and into the National Park. We turn off onto a rough dirt road and drive for another 10 minutes or so. From here we walk in to the forest ranger station another 4 km.
We cross a river on a wooden platform with barrels for floats, and then start our trek upwards toward the summit of the mountain. The trail climbs gradually, but consistently, up from 1,300 meters. This first day of the trek is entirely in pine forest.
Once we start to gain some elevation, there are stunning views of the surrounding hills and villages.
After lunch we continue climbing up to our campsite for the night, right at the fringe of the jungle we will be trekking into the next day (1,900 meters). We set up camp, relax and maybe take a stroll into the jungle area and then start cooking dinner.
On the second day the trail changes considerably and moves from pine forest to jungle. The climb is still gradual but the trail wanders more than it did on the first day. You’ll notice orchids all along the trail and possibly some in bloom.
After an hour or two we arrive at the summit of Mount Bidoup (2,280 meters).
From here the trail drops down steeply. It then flattens out and we wander over a second peak on the mountain. We drop down again and arrive at the oldest tree you will see throughout the trip; a 1,300 year old monster.
We slowly make our way down the mountain and continue to enjoy the scenery.

A trip to the Highlands wouldn't be complete without exploring the beautiful jungles and lakes in the region. Nothing beats the stunning views of mountains and forests from the serenity of Tuyen Lam Lake. Head deep into the jungle on foot and by boat through small rivers and tributaries that feed into the lake.

This 10 km hike, the newest of PTV’s trekking trails, heads up along a jungle fringed ridgeline just south of town. This lonely trail charges up to its peak elevation early on and then gently rolls before heading down to the lake where our kayaks are located.
After we reach the kayaks, which are only accessible by hike in, we spend the remainder of the day exploring the many inlets and secrets spots on the lake. After about 2 hours of exploring we make our way out to the far end of the lake for lunch. A picnic style lunch, taking advantage of the many fruits and vegetable grown in the Dalat area is prepared by the guide.
This fantastic trip is one that can be enjoyed by those of almost any fitness levels. A great day out for those who love to be on the water. Did we mention that the lake is also great for swimming!!
